British Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif stated on Monday that Houthi leaders have failed to respect freedom of navigation, causing economic devastation and undermining Yemen's stability and the welfare of its people.
In a press statement, Sharif added: "The horrific attack by the Houthis on the vessel Magic Seas endangered the lives of innocent crew members and damaged another ship in the Red Sea." She warned that this escalation increases the risk of environmental disaster and threatens the passage of essential goods and humanitarian aid to Yemen.
Escalating Maritime Attacks
Security reports confirmed on Monday that a commercial ship was attacked near Yemen's western coast, resulting in two injuries and causing the vessel to drift off course. This marks the second such incident within 24 hours. Maritime authorities have urged ships to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and maritime security firm Ambrey reported on Sunday that a Liberia-flagged, Greek-owned oil tanker was attacked by four explosive-laden boats 51 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah. The attack caused a fire, partial cargo damage, and water ingress, requiring the full evacuation of all 22 crew members.
