Turkey welcomed on Saturday the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda that was mediated by the United States and signed Friday in Washington.

In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the agreement's implementation "will significantly contribute to peace and prosperity for both nations' peoples and to stability and development in the Great Lakes region." The ministry emphasized Ankara's support for establishing peace in Africa.

The statement reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to African peace initiatives and praised the U.S. mediation efforts that led to this diplomatic breakthrough.
