The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a $2 million grant agreement on Friday to contribute to the Emergency Support Project for Providing Clean Drinking Water to the Gaza Strip in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The Fund announced in a press release that the agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 2025 World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. Acting Director General of KFAED, Waleed Al-Bahar, signed on behalf of the Fund, while Abdallah Al-Dardari, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, signed on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The statement clarified that the project aims to alleviate humanitarian suffering and improve living conditions for conflict-affected populations in Gaza by providing clean and safe drinking water. This comes amid the disruption of main water sources, forcing residents to rely on contaminated supplies that spread waterborne diseases. The project will supply and install solar-powered mobile desalination units, ensuring sustainable water access while reducing dependence on traditional fuel-based water production.
The project is expected to directly benefit approximately 250,000 people in Gaza, most of whom are women and children.
This grant marks the sixth collaboration between KFAED and UNDP in emergency relief and humanitarian development support. Since 2013, the Kuwait Fund has provided $12.6 million to UNDP, funding five humanitarian projects in the region.
