Washington: New Round of Talks with Iran to Begin Saturday, Featuring First Technical Teams Meeting..

The United States confirmed today that a new round of nuclear negotiations with Iran will be hosted by Oman this Saturday, marking the third such meeting following two previous rounds – the first in Muscat and the second in Rome.

Key Developments:

Technical Teams to Meet: U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters in Washington that this round will feature "the first meeting of technical teams" from both nations.

U.S. Delegation: Will be led by:

Michael Anton, Director of Policy Planning at the State Department

Steve Witkof, Special Envoy for the Middle East (participating)

IAEA Involvement: Bruce noted the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plans to send a team to Iran this week.

U.S. Red Line:

Bruce emphasized:

"There is a very clear line between acceptable and unacceptable. The unacceptable is Iran possessing a nuclear weapon. This is the sole red line driving all our efforts."

Background Context:

Former President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) in 2018, calling it "disastrous."

Since returning to the White House on January 20, Trump has signaled openness to renewed negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
