Spain's Real Madrid exited the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday after suffering a 1-2 defeat against English visitors Arsenal in the second leg of their quarter-final clash.
At the Santiago Bernabéu, Arsenal took the lead in the 65th minute through striker Bukayo Saka, but Real Madrid equalized just two minutes later thanks to Brazilian winger Vinícius Júnior. However, in the third minute of stoppage time, the English side sealed their victory with a second goal from Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli.
Arsenal advanced to the semi-finals with an aggregate score of 5-1, having previously secured a 3-0 win in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week. This marks only the third time in their history that the Gunners have reached the Champions League semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid failed to produce the historic "remontada" (comeback) their fans had hoped for, unlike their legendary European comebacks in past editions of the competition. The 15-time Champions League winners were left disappointed as their continental campaign came to an end.
