The U.S. President: "We will make fair and good trade deals with all countries"..

US President Donald Trump affirmed on Monday that his country will conclude serious and fair trade deals with all countries, considering that countries whose markets are still closed to American goods should open them to correct the trade deficit with them. During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Trump said, "I spoke today with the Prime Minister of Japan (Shigeru Ishiba) and we had a very productive conversation.""I told Ishiba one thing: You have to open your country because we haven't sold any cars in Japan, while they've sold millions of cars in our country," he added. "They're not even taking a little of our agricultural products just to please us. They're not even taking what they're supposed to take." He stressed, "We have an excellent relationship with Japan, and we'll keep it that way, but they'll come to meet, and other countries will come."Regarding China, he noted that they "imposed a 34 percent tariff on top of their already ridiculous tariffs, and if they don't lift those tariffs tomorrow by 12 noon (Eastern Time), we will impose a 50 percent tariff on top of the tariffs we imposed last Wednesday." He stressed that China "became a rich country thanks to people in the White House who allowed this to happen," noting that he has a "great relationship with (Chinese) President Xi (Jinping)," expressing his hope that it "will remain that way."Trump explained that he has great respect for China, "but it's an honor to do what they did because of what they did to our system, and as you know, we have $36 trillion in debt for a good reason, and that is because people (previous US administrations) allowed it to get that far." He stressed, "We will be talking to China and many other countries, and I think you know that." He pointed out that "tariffs are very important, but there are many things, such as opening up countries that have been completely closed."He said, "China is basically a closed country, and what they're doing is imposing tariffs. If you sell cars or anything, no one will buy them because the price is out of control. This applies to many other countries as well." The US president stressed, "We will make fair and good deals with every country, and if we don't, we will have no (trade) relationship with them, and they will not be allowed to engage (trade) in the United States."Regarding his meeting with Netanyahu, Trump said, "I think we reached very good solutions and conclusions," noting that they discussed the "obvious" Iran issue and the "less obvious" trade issue. Trump stated that Washington "gives Israel billions of dollars a year, which is one of the highest rates of (foreign aid), and here he (Netanyahu) came to discuss the issue of tariffs," noting that the US president last week imposed 17 percent tariffs on goods imported from the occupation. For his part, Netanyahu said, "We will eliminate the trade deficit with the United States, and we intend to do so very quickly. We believe this is the right thing to do, and we will also remove the trade barriers that were put in place unnecessarily." He added, "I believe that Israel can be a model for many countries that should follow its example," referring to trade with the United States.
