Several US states are suing Meta and demanding record damages exceeding $1.4 trillion..

Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is facing a lawsuit in the United States that could expose it to fines and damages of up to $1.4 trillion, on charges of designing its platforms in a way that makes them more addictive for younger users. The states of California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey are leading the case, which is being heard in federal court in Oakland, California. According to what was revealed during a hearing last June, the states based their compensation estimates on the number of alleged violations multiplied by the fines stipulated in each state's laws, considering each minor user affected by the platforms as a separate violation.
