The European Union mandates USB-C for charging laptops..

The EU's unified charger directive came into effect in December 2024, mandating that most new portable electronic devices use a USB-C port.

However, the European Commission granted laptop manufacturers an additional 16-month grace period, which officially ended on April 28.

Consequently, all new laptops sold within the European Union are now legally required to support charging via at least one USB-C port.
