Google has officially launched the YouTube app for the Apple Vision Pro on February 12, 2026, two years after Apple first announced the device. The launch comes after a long wait for headset users who previously did not have direct access to the platform.
Official YouTube App Supports Core Features
Google confirmed in a statement published on its official website that the app was specifically designed to run on visionOS, the operating system powering Vision Pro. The app provides access to high-resolution videos and supports interactive viewing through the headset’s immersive 3D interface.
Google stated: “Vision Pro users can now watch YouTube content and take advantage of immersive viewing features,” according to a release from the company’s product division.
YouTube Was Initially Unavailable on Vision Pro
The official YouTube app was not available on Vision Pro when the headset launched in February 2024. Users relied on web browsers or third-party apps to watch videos, without advanced capabilities such as 3D interaction or full-motion immersive playback.
Google spent two years developing the app, noting that it will continue to receive updates to ensure compatibility with extended reality technologies and Apple’s quality standards for Vision Pro applications.
Enhanced Viewing Experience with 4K and Spatial Audio
A report published on Google’s official website states that the new app supports video playback in up to 4K resolution, along with integrated spatial audio systems compatible with Vision Pro. Users can browse menus, search for videos, and sign in to their accounts directly within the app.
The YouTube app also enables AV1 content playback without the need for external converters previously required by alternative apps. In addition, it supports live streaming and full in-headset control over viewing settings.
