Real Madrid climbed to the top of the Spanish Football League (La Liga) after defeating its guest Mallorca 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Saturday, as part of the third round of the competition.

The visiting team, Mallorca, took the lead with a goal scored by Vedat Muriqi in the 18th minute of the match. However, Real Madrid turned the tables on its opponent and responded with two goals: the first by Arda Güler in the 37th minute and the second by the Brazilian Vinicius Junior in the 38th minute.

With this result, Real Madrid collected the three points to top the league standings with nine points, leading by a three-point margin ahead of both Villarreal and Barcelona. Meanwhile, Mallorca's points tally froze at one point, leaving them in 18th place in the overall league standings.

In other matches from the same round, 16th-placed Atlético Madrid was held to a positive 1-1 draw by Alavés. Meanwhile, the runner-up Villarreal plays against Celta Vigo, and third-placed Barcelona will visit Rayo Vallecano as a guest on Sunday.
