The US Secretary of State affirms his country's commitment to promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology..

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed on Wednesday his country's commitment to promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

This came during Rubio's meeting with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, in Washington.

Tommy Bigott, the Deputy Principal Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated in a press release that the meeting between the two parties comes ahead of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna from September 8 to 12.

Bigott added that Rubio and Grossi discussed "global nuclear safety, including at Ukrainian nuclear facilities, and the IAEA's efforts in monitoring and verification activities, including in Iran."

He explained that Secretary Rubio affirmed during the meeting his country's commitment to supporting the IAEA in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology and preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Earlier in the day, Secretary Rubio held phone calls with his counterparts in Britain, Germany, and France to discuss developments regarding the Iranian nuclear dossier.

During these calls, the foreign ministers affirmed their commitment to ensuring that Iran does not develop or possess a nuclear weapon.
