Nvidia has submitted a new undisclosed version of its chipset known as the B30 to U.S. officials for approval to export it to China.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, this processor could provide up to 80% of the maximum performance of the entire Blackwell series.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been open to allowing Blackwell processors to be shipped to China on the condition that they are 30% to 50% less powerful than the flagship version, signaling his willingness to approve a reduced performance version of the chip.
Washington had banned sales of the H20 chip in mid-April, resulting in an estimated loss of $5.5 billion for Nvidia, before the decision was reversed just three months later. However, the sale was allowed this time with a condition that the company be obliged to pay the equivalent of 15% of sales destined for China to the US government.
As a result, Chinese customers rushed to buy H20 chips, while Nvidia rushed to place manufacturing orders for hundreds of thousands of units at TSMC.
