Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) on Sunday approved the formation of a Defense Council tasked with reviewing defense strategies and enhancing the capabilities of the armed forces.

Chaired by the President of Iran
Includes commanders of the armed forces, heads of the three branches of government, and relevant ministers
Context:
Follows the June 13 wide-scale attack by Israeli forces on Tehran and other Iranian cities, which prompted Iranian missile strikes on occupied territories
Comes after U.S. airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan – sites previously attacked multiple times by Israeli forces
