Yemeni Prime Minister Salem bin Brik announced on Thursday the start of preparations for a donors' conference to support Yemen's health sector. The conference will be held in the temporary Yemeni capital, Aden, next October under joint Yemeni-British leadership.

The official Yemeni news agency SABA reported that the announcement came during discussions between bin Brik and the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, via video conference. The talks addressed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and British support for government reform programs and economic recovery.

The agency noted that the discussions also covered arrangements for launching a technical support program for the government in Aden, enhancing the government’s capacity to reform the pension system, and supporting the efforts of the Yemen Partners Group in implementing the economic plan. Additionally, they discussed strengthening coast guard capabilities and ways to counter arms smuggling to the Houthi militia.

For her part, the British ambassador reaffirmed her country’s support for the Yemeni government in its efforts to maintain economic stability, implement reforms, and address the challenges facing the Yemeni people.
