Hawaii Experiences Five-Foot Tsunami Waves – No Casualties Reported So Far..

Coasts of the U.S. state of Hawaii experienced tsunami waves overnight following an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Russia, triggering warnings and evacuation orders in several countries.

Key Details:

  • Hawaii Governor’s Statement:
Governor Josh Green stated in a press conference that initial waves exceeding five feet were observed along Hawaii’s coasts. He urged residents to stay indoors and avoid roads.

"So far, we have not seen a massive tidal wave from the earthquake, nor have we detected wave activity beyond the Big Island, which is a great relief," Green said, confirming no damage has been reported yet.

He added that "Hawaii authorities will maintain tsunami warnings until waves gradually subside over the next three hours and we can declare the threat over… but so far, things are good." No power outages have been reported.

  • U.S. Tsunami Alerts:
U.S. authorities issued tsunami warnings for the West Coast, particularly California, Hawaii, Alaska, and Oregon, following the powerful quake in eastern Russia.

  • Duration of Threat:
The U.S. National Weather Service warned late yesterday that tsunami waves could persist for 10 to 36 hours along California’s coastal areas.

  • Federal Emergency Alert:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging coastal residents in Hawaii to "evacuate immediately."
