Algeria on Thursday reaffirmed its rejection of all forms of violence in Libya, emphasizing that the desired political settlement can only be achieved through a Libyan-led solution. The North African nation expressed its continued support for both African and international efforts aimed at resolving the crisis.
In a statement, Algeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that State Secretary for African Affairs Salma Mansouri participated via videoconference in the 1291st meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, held at the level of heads of state and government to discuss developments in Libya.
The meeting saw participation from the presidents of Uganda and the Republic of Congo, members of Libya's Presidential Council, foreign ministers of member states, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Libya, and the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
In her remarks, Mansouri reiterated Algeria's steadfast position of standing with the Libyan people and supporting their efforts to build a unified state governed by law and justice. She expressed Algeria's continued backing of AU and UN initiatives seeking a comprehensive, peaceful resolution to the crisis.
The Algerian official stressed that any settlement must emerge from an inclusive national political will based on comprehensive dialogue and genuine reconciliation, free from foreign interference or external dictates.
