The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned on Thursday Israel's attempts to change the status of the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron (southern West Bank) or to "usurp" the authorities that rightfully belong to Palestinians.

In an official statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called on relevant UN agencies, particularly the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the international community to take necessary measures against these attempts, which violate international law and constitute an assault on humanitarian values.

The ministry reiterated Turkey's firm rejection of the Israeli occupation's efforts to alter the status of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron and its "usurpation" of Palestinian authorities.
