Chinese Foreign Ministry: Washington's Additional Tariffs Will Slow Global Economic Recovery..

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized U.S. trade policy on Saturday, emphasizing that Washington's imposition of additional high tariffs on countries around the world violates World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, destabilizes global industrial and supply chains, and slows the recovery of the world economy.

China Central Television (CCTV) quoted Wang Yi as saying during his attendance at an annual meeting of foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that "the reciprocal tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump are irresponsible, unpopular, and unsustainable."

He added, "The current international situation is marked by transformations and turbulence, forcing countries to choose between unilateralism and multilateralism, isolation and openness, unity and division."

Highlighting China's efforts to promote cooperation and openness, Wang Yi noted that China has implemented zero tariffs on 100% of product categories exported to China by all least-developed countries in Africa and completed negotiations on the upgraded China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement.
