The United States approved on Friday the sale of maintenance equipment for Lebanon's A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and related supplies in a $100 million deal.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated that the Lebanese government had requested to purchase support equipment and other items related to the Logistics Support Program, which would be added to a previous request that fell below the congressional notification threshold.
The agency noted that "the original Foreign Military Sales case," valued at $43.7 million, included items related to logistics support and program sustainment.
It confirmed that the sale of A-29 Super Tucano maintenance equipment would support the Lebanese Armed Forces' implementation of hostilities cessation by providing maintenance for these essential aircraft. The A-29s are used for close air support as part of ground maneuver operations, as well as manned intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. The Lebanese Army will have no difficulty integrating this equipment and services into its forces.
The United States had previously delivered A-29 Super Tucano light multi-role attack aircraft to Lebanon in 2019. These aircraft are known for their affordable cost, rugged design, and capability to perform low-altitude missions.
