Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty stressed on Tuesday the need to find a political horizon for the Palestinian issue that fulfills the aspirations and hopes of the Palestinian people for the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967, lines, thus sparing the region from recurring episodes of escalation and tension and supporting security and stability in the region.The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a press release that this came during a phone call between Minister Abdel-Ati and his Canadian counterpart, Anita Anand, during which they discussed developments in the Middle East, including the situations in Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Red Sea security.During the call, Minister Abdel-Ati reviewed Egypt's efforts to resume the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and release hostages and prisoners, stressing the need for humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to reach the Strip amid the sharp deterioration of the humanitarian situation.She added that, in this context, Egypt will host the international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza immediately after a ceasefire agreement is reached.According to the statement, the Egyptian minister stressed the importance of Israel and Iran's commitment to a ceasefire and the concerted regional and international efforts to consolidate the agreement, which would contribute to de-escalation and open the way for diplomacy. He also emphasized the importance of resuming negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.Regarding relations between the two countries, Abdel-Ati expressed his aspiration to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries and encourage Canadian companies to invest in Egypt, particularly in the energy, agriculture, and water resources sectors. He highlighted the measures and steps taken by the Egyptian government in recent years to support the private sector and improve the business environment in Egypt.He stressed the importance of building on the achievements of the 12th round of political consultations between the two countries, which included a visit by a delegation of Egyptian businessmen to Ottawa last April. For her part, the Canadian Foreign Minister, according to the statement, praised Egypt's constructive efforts to resume the ceasefire in Gaza and achieve peace and security in the Middle East, considering it a pillar of stability in the region.
