Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Monday that peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy stated in an official release that this came during President El-Sisi's speech commemorating the 12th anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, where he emphasized that continued war and occupation "fuels cycles of hatred and violence, opening doors to vengeance and resistance that will never cease... Enough with violence, killing, hatred, occupation, displacement and dispossession."
The President reiterated Egypt's unwavering support for peace opportunities based on justice, fairness and mutual understanding, stressing that "peace isn't born from bombardment, imposed by force, or achieved through normalization rejected by peoples."
"While peace may seem difficult to attain, it's never impossible - it has always been the choice of wise leadership," President El-Sisi stated, calling for drawing inspiration from the Egyptian-Israeli peace experience of the 1970s, mediated by the U.S., which proved peace "is possible when intentions are sincere."
"I address you today as our entire region groans under the fires of war - from the cries of victims in devastated Gaza to conflicts raging in Sudan, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia," the President added.
President El-Sisi appealed to conflict parties and the international community to continue taking all necessary measures and heed the voice of wisdom to spare the region's peoples the scourges of destruction and devastation.
