The European Union: We are devoting our efforts to reaching an agreement with Washington on customs tariffs..

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) following a phone call with U.S. Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick, Šefčovič stated: "We are devoting all our efforts because finding future solutions is a top priority for the European Union... and we remain in constant contact."

The development comes after the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled last Wednesday to suspend most of the tariffs imposed since President Donald Trump took office. However, an appeals court overturned the decision the following day, keeping in place the broad tariffs Trump had imposed on trade partners.

Earlier, the U.S. president had agreed to suspend the tariffs until July 9 following a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who requested an extension of the deadline to allow more time for negotiations and to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement.
