Kuwait Enhances Its International Presence with High-Level Participation at the World Health Assembly and First Strategic Dialogue with UNHCR..

Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to strengthening its active role in international forums. He announced Kuwait's high-level participation in the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) alongside the establishment of its first strategic dialogue with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), demonstrating Kuwait's steadfast dedication to global health and humanitarian causes while reinforcing its position as a key international partner.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Ambassador Al-Hain revealed that a high-level Kuwaiti delegation led by Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi will participate in the WHA session scheduled from May 19-27 in Geneva. The assembly, convening member states and stakeholders under the theme "One World for Health," addresses critical global health challenges at a pivotal moment for international health governance.

This year's session assumes particular significance as member states confront emerging health threats and fundamental shifts in public health and international development landscapes. The recent withdrawal of the United States as WHO's largest funder has directly impacted the organization's operational capacity and response effectiveness, compounding the challenges on the assembly's agenda.

The WHA is expected to adopt crucial resolutions strengthening multilateral cooperation across various sectors. Ambassador Al-Hain emphasized that Kuwait's participation underscores its continued support for WHO's efforts and readiness to contribute to addressing global health challenges through preventive policies and sustainable health system development.

Simultaneously, Kuwait will hold its inaugural strategic dialogue with UNHCR in May, featuring a high-level delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. This dialogue institutionalizes Kuwait's decades-long humanitarian partnership with UNHCR, particularly relevant amid growing global refugee and displacement crises.

Ambassador Al-Hain stressed that this initiative reflects Kuwait's consistent vision as a leading donor nation, aligned with its political leadership's directives to maintain charitable and humanitarian diplomacy. These coordinated efforts solidify Kuwait's position as a global humanitarian capital, building on its established track record in relief work and crisis response.

The dual engagements highlight Kuwait's multidimensional approach to international cooperation, combining health sector leadership with sustained humanitarian commitment as part of its foreign policy priorities.
